Events - 9 Oct 20

(All Upcoming In-Person Events Cancelled)

Museums are places to be entertained and inspired, and we try to make learning fun and our events unusual. The Brunels did not just build bridges and tunnels, they organised concert parties, dance events, underwater banquets, fairgrounds and shopping arcades. Brunel was not just an engineer, he was an impresario and showman.

  • NEW Virtual Tours

You may not be able to visit historic sites in person at the moment, but you can now visit us virtually and even travel back through time with us. Explore a virtual model of the museum site at different points in time, and learn about some of its fascinating history.

Each tour comprises four 360 degree scenes that you can use your mouse (or equivalent, depending on your device) to look around. There are buttons to click on for more information and relevant pictures.

There are also audio narration and ambient noise options that can be turned on (if you don’t see the cog in the top right for options, come out of full screen mode and it should show up).

As an extra bonus, for those of you with a VR headset / a smartphone and viewer such as Google Cardboard, you can also enter these scenes and look around in VR!

We would love to know what you think of these, and what content you would like to see added in the future – send us an email at hello@thebrunelmuseum.com or contact us via social media.

  • Midnight Apothecary – Campfire Cocktails in the City!

Campfire Cocktails in the City! Voted one of London’s best pop-up cocktail bars since 2012 and featured in Vogue, World’s Best Bars, the Independent on Sunday, Red, Elle and Time Out.

Autumnal wild cocktails, campfires and culture are back!  We invite you to dust off your winter woollens and join us to embrace the magic of ‘Friluftsliv’, the Nordic concept of open air living.

There will be individual firepits to hire, s’mores to devour (toasted marshmallows with chocolate and biscuits to the uninitiated) alongside our legendary deluxe hot rum (or whisky) toddies to keep you extra toasty.  And all at a safe social distance. A perfect mates’ night out or date for two.
Our site is divided into two spaces- the candlelit cocktail garden and the Piazza- an atmospheric terrace tucked alongside the Brunel Museum amongst Rotherhithe’s cobbled streets. We have table service (with an ordering app), one-way signage, plenty of hand sanitiser everywhere and social distancing measures in place to keep everyone safe.

Tickets for a 2-hour session in the cocktail garden cost £7 and proceeds go to the Brunel Museum, tickets include a socially-distanced guided tour of Brunel’s Thames Tunnel Shaft, deep below our feet. Tickets for the terrace are free of charge and you will be able to purchase our award-winning cocktails or a locally-brewed beer, which will be delivered to your table.

PLUS… We will be offering ‘buy one, get one half price’ on cocktails  between 5pm – 7pm every Friday!
